LEAD, Sydney Cremorne

ADE’s experienced team of occupational and industrial hygienists have the capabilities and experience to assist building owners, construction managers and facility managers in the control or removal lead hazards.

About three out of four buildings built before 1978 have lead-based paint. Lead paint deterioration can be a major health hazard, especially to children. Lead poisoning damages the brain, nervous system, kidneys, hearing, and coordination. Learning disabilities, erratic behavior, blindness and pregnancy problems have also been linked to high levels of lead exposure.

Who is at risk?

Anyone can get lead poisoning, but children between the ages of six months and six years are at the greatest risk.

Where does lead come from?

Lead is found in paint chips and dust within cavities and voids in older homes (inside and out), water pipes, soil, old painted toys and a variety of other matrices and places.

All of ADE’s field work, laboratory analysis and reporting is done in accordance with:

  • AS4631.1 Guide to lead paint management - Industrial applications
  • AS4631.2 Guide to lead paint management - Residential and commercial buildings

ADE key services

  • Lead-based paint or Lead-containing dust inspections
    • Our qualified Inspectors conduct inspections to determine the existence of lead-based paint through a surface-by-surface investigation of the residential dwelling, child-occupied facility, or other structure/object as requested by the client.
    • The inspection is conducted using documented methodologies and adequate quality control measures and the results are incorporated into a comprehensive report.
  • Lead Risk Assessments
    • The risk assessment includes a visual assessment of the building and paint condition.
    • Sampling locations are selected based on use patterns and visual observations. Dust samples are typically collected in the representative areas.
    • Any hazards identified as well as acceptable control measures, including interim control and abatement options are included in a written report.
  • Lead Abatement/Removal works
    • Depending on the nature of lead materials and site conditions ADE employs safe and cost-effective remediation methods to ensure that the lead hazard has been either removed or managed in accordance with Australian Standards.
  • Clearance Inspections
    • The inspector conducts a visual examination to determine:
      • if all required work has been completed
      • if all lead-based paint hazards have been controlled
      • that there is no visible settled dust, paint chips, or debris in the interior or around the exterior
      • If the visual inspection is satisfactory, clearance dust sampling is conducted.
